OIF Releases 800ZR Coherent Interface Implementation Agreement, Updates to 400ZR IA

OIF published its new 800ZR coherent interface implementation agreement (IA).

The 800ZR IA provides a framework for an 800G coherent line interface over single-span, amplified Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) links of 80-120 km, optimized for data center interconnect (DCI) applications. Updates to the foundational 400ZR IA also address key performance parameters, aiming to enhance interoperability in existing 400ZR deployments.

The 800ZR IA specifies Ethernet client interfaces from 100GE up to 800G aggregate bandwidth, detailing required client mappings, frame formats, forward-error correction (FEC), modulation, and optical properties for low-power, compact coherent solutions in pluggable modules. OIF demonstrated the first multivendor interoperability for 800ZR at ECOC 2024, underscoring the readiness of 800G DCI solutions for broader adoption. The new 400ZR IA (3.0) revisions also clarify parameters to support seamless 400ZR deployments across industry networks.
