DE-CIX will launch its first Internet and Cloud Exchange in Sweden with a new AI-ready platform in Stockholm, extending its Nordic footprint following earlier deployments in Denmark, Norway, and Finland. The new exchange, scheduled to enter service in September 2026, will provide Internet peering and cloud interconnection services for enterprises, network operators, cloud providers, and AI infrastructure deployments. Orders are now open ahead of the commercial launch.
The Stockholm exchange has been designed to support AI-era networking requirements, including low-latency connectivity for data-intensive workloads, cloud-native AI applications, and real-time services. DE-CIX said the platform incorporates AI-IX capabilities to enable high-performance interconnection among networks, cloud platforms, and AI infrastructure while supporting scalability, resilience, and digital sovereignty. The exchange will also provide direct access to Internet peering and cloud connectivity to help customers optimize hybrid and multi-cloud architectures while reducing latency to major global platforms.
DE-CIX will operate the Stockholm exchange through DE-CIX International GmbH across multiple carrier-neutral data centers throughout the metropolitan area. The company said Stockholm represents the largest colocation market in the Nordics, with more than 30 data centers and over 125 active network providers, carrying approximately 55% of Nordic Internet traffic. The new location will integrate into DE-CIX’s global interconnection platform spanning more than 60 locations worldwide and connecting over 4,000 networks.

🌐 Analysis: DE-CIX has steadily expanded beyond its traditional Frankfurt base into regional digital hubs worldwide, positioning Internet exchanges as platforms for cloud connectivity, enterprise interconnection, and AI infrastructure rather than simply public peering fabrics. The Stockholm deployment continues that strategy while strengthening competition among major European IX operators serving hyperscale cloud and AI ecosystems
