euNetworks Connects AWS European Sovereign Cloud

euNetworks will provide private, direct and secure cloud access for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, adding a network-layer dimension to Europe’s push for digital sovereignty. AWS named euNetworks as one of the first connectivity partners for the new EU-based cloud on April 14, 2026, with euNetworks supporting direct connections designed to maintain data residency when customers connect to the sovereign cloud platform.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will operate entirely within the EU and is designed around data residency, operational autonomy and resiliency requirements. For euNetworks, the role fits directly into its position as a pan-European critical bandwidth infrastructure provider focused on data center-to-data center connectivity, cloud connectivity, dark fiber, wavelengths and Ethernet services. The company says it operates 18 fiber-based metro networks connected by a high-capacity intercity backbone covering 53 cities in 17 countries, with direct connectivity to more than 600 data centers and more than 180 cloud on-ramps.

The partnership also reflects a broader infrastructure shift: digital sovereignty now depends not only on where cloud regions sit, but also on how customers reach them. euNetworks’ recent investment cycle, including its €2.1 billion equity recapitalization in 2024, gives the company capital support for dense metro and long-haul fiber builds across European data center hubs.   The strategic profile supplied for this article frames euNetworks’ role around sovereign cloud access, Super Highway expansion and hollowcore fiber deployments for ultra-low-latency applications.

“Data sovereignty is one of the most critical topics for businesses right now and this priority is only set to grow in strength, particularly in the EU and wider Europe where regulatory pressures continue to rise. euNetworks is perfectly placed to support organisations in keeping their data safe by providing secure access to sovereign cloud platforms.”

🌐  Analysis: The AWS-euNetworks announcement shows how sovereign cloud strategies now extend beyond cloud regions into private network access, fiber routes, data center interconnect, and cloud on-ramp geography. For regulated sectors, the physical connectivity layer could become as important as cloud-region location when proving data residency, resilience and operational control.
