Hitachi and X LABS Partner on GW-Scale Energy Parks for AI Data Centers

Hitachi and X LABS announced a strategic collaboration to develop gigawatt-scale energy parks for AI data centers across North America, targeting one of the largest constraints facing hyperscale AI infrastructure deployments: access to reliable electrical power. The companies plan to provide integrated “Energy as a Service” (EaaS) offerings through project-specific special purpose vehicles (SPVs) that will finance, build, own, and operate dedicated behind-the-meter power infrastructure for AI campuses.

The proposed energy parks combine on-site power generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transmission and distribution infrastructure, and advanced energy management systems into dedicated power hubs designed specifically for large AI and cloud computing facilities. Unlike conventional microgrids operating at kilowatt or megawatt scale, the projects target gigawatt-class deployments capable of supporting hyperscale AI training clusters and large-scale inference infrastructure. Hitachi said the architecture allows operators to bypass lengthy utility grid upgrades while securing more predictable power availability and power quality for AI workloads.

Under the agreement, X LABS will oversee project financing, site selection, SPV management, procurement, and overall project development, while Hitachi will contribute high-voltage transmission and distribution systems, grid stabilization technologies, and energy management platforms. Hitachi also plans to incorporate its HMAX Energy AI-powered energy optimization platform into the projects. The companies said they expect the first energy park deployment to be completed in the early 2030s.
