Holly Hulse Takes Helm at Lightera

Lightera named Holly Hulse as Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2026, succeeding Foad Shaikhzadeh, who will remain Chairman. The leadership transition follows the company’s first full year operating as a unified global entity under the Furukawa Electric Group. The move signals a shift toward scaling operations and targeting higher-growth segments, particularly in data center and advanced network infrastructure markets.

The company emerged from Furukawa Electric’s 2024 integration of its global fiber and cable businesses, culminating in the formal launch of Lightera in April 2025. Over the past year, Lightera aligned its operating model globally, expanded solution-based sales strategies, and increased focus across communications networks, specialty photonics, and connectivity infrastructure. The company reports that these efforts enabled it to exceed its initial operational targets while positioning itself to serve hyperscale and next-generation network deployments.

Hulse, previously Corporate Vice President at Furukawa Electric, will lead Lightera’s expansion in high-value segments including data centers and advanced optical solutions. The company indicated that her mandate includes accelerating innovation and strengthening customer engagement across its global footprint, which spans telecom, enterprise, industrial, and emerging AI-driven infrastructure markets.

“Lightera has built a strong foundation in its first year through global alignment, agility, and a clear market focus,” said Holly Hulse. “We are well positioned to scale our impact in the market, deepen customer partnerships, and deliver high-performance solutions that support the next generation of digital infrastructure.”

🌐 Analysis: Lightera’s leadership transition comes as optical infrastructure suppliers align more closely with hyperscale AI data center demand, where integrated fiber, connectivity, and photonics solutions are increasingly critical. Furukawa Electric’s consolidation strategy mirrors broader industry moves by companies such as CommScope and Prysmian to unify global operations and shift toward higher-margin, solution-oriented offerings tied to AI, 5G/6G, and cloud infrastructure growth.
