Trans Pacific Networks (TPN) has selected Ciena optical technology to increase capacity and efficiency across the Echo and Tabua submarine cable systems, strengthening digital connectivity between the United States and Southeast Asia. The deployment will enable terabit-class wavelengths on long-haul transpacific routes linking the U.S. with Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and Fiji.
TPN operates fiber pairs on both systems, including Echo, the world’s longest subsea digital line segment at 16,051 km (9,975 miles). Using Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme coherent optics and Reconfigurable Line System, TPN aims to maximize fiber utilization while improving power and space efficiency on routes carrying growing volumes of cloud and AI-driven traffic. Pioneer Consulting is overseeing route engineering, quality assurance, and end-to-end project execution as TPN prepares for commercial service in 2026.
Echo provides a direct express route between the U.S. and Singapore, while Tabua forms part of Google’s South Pacific Connect initiative, extending connectivity to Australia and Fiji. Together, the systems create a cohesive Pacific network designed to deliver lower latency, higher capacity, and scalable expansion for carriers, hyperscalers, and enterprise customers.
