1Finity, a Fujitsu company, introduced its Ultra Optical System L1000/L2000, a next-generation open optical line system (OLS) designed to support 800G and higher-capacity transport for AI-driven networks. The platform targets hyperscalers, cloud providers, and communication service providers (CSPs) that require scalable optical infrastructure for data center interconnect (DCI), metro, and long-haul deployments. 1Finity plans general availability in the fall and will showcase the system at MWC Barcelona 2026 and OFC 2026 in Los Angeles.

The L1000/L2000 platform uses a Direct Attach (DA) architecture to optimize high-capacity transmission while reducing power consumption and rack space. It supports continuous C+L band operation and scales from 1 to 16 degrees, with multi-vendor interoperability enabled through an open Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) for ROADM environments. The modular system comes in multiple shelf sizes with AC or DC power options, allowing deployment in core, metro, and data center environments. 1Finity said the system supports 800G and higher wavelengths and includes Multi-Rail transmission capabilities to improve long-term power and space efficiency.

The platform integrates automation features for fiber monitoring, commissioning, and wavelength lifecycle management. Embedded tools provide fiber connectivity verification, wavelength planning, and diagnostic capabilities aimed at proactive maintenance and faster fault isolation. The L1000/L2000 also aligns with a Japanese national research initiative on advanced ROADM-based optical networking, commissioned by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).

• Open optical line system designed for 800G and higher transmission

• Direct Attach architecture to reduce power and space requirements

• Scales from 1 to 16 degrees across continuous C+L bands

• Open WSS supports multi-vendor ROADM interoperability

• Multi-Rail transmission for improved long-term efficiency

• Automation tools for fiber verification, planning, and diagnostics

• Target markets: hyperscalers, cloud providers, and CSPs

• Availability planned for Fall 2026

“The Ultra Optical System L1000/L2000 OLS empowers CSPs, Hyperscalers, and Cloud providers to reliably deliver optimized, managed fiber services and core optical infrastructure from the same simple, compact design that fits anywhere,” said Hideki Matsui, SVP, Head of Photonics System Business Unit at 1Finity Inc.

🌐 Analysis: The launch positions 1Finity to compete in the open optical line system segment as hyperscalers expand 800G DCI and begin planning for 1.6T transport. Vendors such as Ciena, Nokia, and Infinera have also emphasized open line systems and C+L band scaling to address AI cluster interconnect growth. Backing from a NICT research program underscores Japan’s continued investment in advanced ROADM architectures and photonic innovation.
