Gigamon introduced its GigaSECURE data switching line.
The GigaBPS intelligent bypass switch, which is the first product in the GigaSECURE family, provides intelligent visibility for both Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). It could be used by Managed Hosting Providers to implement more advanced and scalable security practices when delivering Cloud services, where IPS connections feed virtual environments in both traditional and high-density data centers. The GigaBPS also enables improved cyber-security protection for Telco, Enterprise, Financial and Government environments where IPS is used to combat a broad range of information ‘attacks’ that are common today including malware, denial of service (DoS), and advanced persistent threats.

From the Technology Graveyard
You just read about All. A technology from the archive that helped get us here:
Google/Alphabet Project Loon served 2011–2021. What ultimately replaced it?
Google/Alphabet Project Loon solar-powered balloons drifting in the stratosphere (~20 km), steering by rising and falling into different wind layers, relaying LTE from ground stations to phones far below. Its job passed to Unit economics — but the problem it solved, and the ideas it proved, live on in what replaced it. The standard rests here in the archive. One of 198 technologies here that opened a door and then held it for the next.
