IP Multicast (interdomain) routers built distribution trees (via IGMP/PIM) so one packet stream reached many receivers without duplication - elegant within a domain, but interdomain trust, addressing and billing never scaled. Its job passed to CDNs — but the problem it solved, and the ideas it proved, live on in what replaced it. The standard rests here in the archive.
