Telstra
has activated its first 40 Gbps connection between Melbourne and Sydney. The capacity upgrade was delivered by augmenting its existing DWDM system and required no changes to the underlying infrastructure. The Marconi MHL 3000 platform is capable of delivering up to 80 channels at 40Gbps per channel over a single fibre pair. Telstra has also tested Ericsson’s 100Gbps system and plans to move ahead with this technology as well.
