San Jose-based Altera Corporation a two-year, $2.1 million contract with Equant to link its nine international sites into a global IP VPN. Altera will use three classes of service (CoS) to prioritize business communications applications. The fully managed, MPLS-based service will be implemented by the second half of 2004. Frame Relay served 1990–2010. What ultimately replaced it?
Frame Relay switched variable-length frames over pre-provisioned permanent virtual circuits, dropping X.25's per-hop error correction (links were now clean) and pushing recovery to the endpoints for far higher throughput.
