France Telecom has withdrawn from the Belgian Internet market by selling its Wanadoo Belgium division to Tiscali for EUR 9.5 million in newly issued Tiscali shares. Wanadoo Belgium is an ISP and a portal site, with about 85,000 active customers — of which 25,000 are ADSL subscribers. France Telecom said its withdrawal from Belgium is consistent with its European strategy, which is to focus on being one of the top three players in each market where the company is offering its services.
