Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a landmark $4 billion investment to establish a new AWS South America (Chile) Region by the end of 2026. The cloud infrastructure region will consist of three Availability Zones and will provide Chilean organizations with secure, low-latency, and scalable access to AWS cloud services locally. The new region will enable customers across sectors—including financial services, retail, education, and public sector—to meet data residency requirements and accelerate digital transformation using the full breadth of AWS technologies.
This latest expansion builds on AWS’s growing footprint in Chile. Since 2019, AWS has launched multiple infrastructure components, including a CloudFront edge location, an AWS Ground Station antenna in Punta Arenas, AWS Outposts, and an AWS Local Zone in Santiago. These resources already serve a wide range of enterprise and institutional customers across the country. The new investment reinforces Chile’s status as a key technology hub in Latin America and supports national goals outlined in the country’s National Data Center Plan.
AWS also plans to grow its local workforce, expand training through AWS Academy and AWS Educate, and continue partnerships with leading Chilean enterprises and global system integrators such as Deloitte, Accenture, NTT, and SoftwareOne.
