Brookfield Asset Management announced plans to invest up to SEK 95 billion (approximately $10 billion) in AI infrastructure in Sweden, marking one of the firm’s largest commitments to artificial intelligence in Europe to date. The centerpiece of this investment is a major new AI center in Strängnäs, which will support Sweden’s national AI strategy and bolster the country’s sovereign compute capabilities.
The new campus will double its planned capacity from 300MW to 750MW through a land allocation agreement covering approximately 350,000 square meters. Brookfield anticipates the development will generate over 1,000 permanent jobs and around 2,000 construction-related roles over the next 10 to 15 years. Once completed, the site is expected to be Sweden’s first large-scale AI-specific infrastructure facility—and one of the largest in Europe.
This initiative follows Brookfield’s broader push into AI infrastructure, including a €20 billion program in France that features the continent’s first AI factory. Globally, Brookfield has invested more than €100 billion in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and semiconductor manufacturing. In Sweden, Brookfield has maintained an active presence since 2018 with stakes in telecom towers, logistics hubs, renewable power, and social infrastructure.
