China Mobile has achieved a power savings of 32% on 5G base stations at 23 sites in a central and southern city in Jiangxi province after Ericsson’s base station deep power saving function was turned on.

Ericsson reports that there no impact on KPI performance for the base stations, and that the BBU board temperature dropped by about 5 degrees centigrade. The gains were achieved via Ericsson’s baseband ASIC.

China Mobile’s 5G network supporting 5G NR mid-band and low-band have reached 2.34 million base stations.
