Sparrow Quantum has secured €21.5 million in Series A funding to accelerate development and commercialization of its photonic quantum chip technology. The round was led by PensionDanmark, with backing from EIFO, Novo Holdings, and existing investors including 2xN, LIFTT, and the European Innovation Council. The investment will support scaling chip production, expanding R&D into entangled photon sources, and bringing new quantum products to market.
At the core of Sparrow Quantum’s innovation is the Sparrow Core chip, a deterministic single-photon source that enables reliable, high-performance photonic quantum computing. Built on research from the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Sparrow Core is designed for integration into scalable quantum systems and sets a benchmark for efficiency, stability, and on-demand photon generation. The company has already partnered with European quantum system providers and aims to fuel advances in generative AI, quantum machine learning, and secure communications.
This funding also reinforces Europe’s ambitions to establish a self-sufficient quantum technology supply chain under the EU Chips Act. By maintaining chip production and quality control in Europe, Sparrow Quantum strengthens regional technological sovereignty. With expanded resources and a growing expert team, the company is poised to deliver commercial quantum solutions and support broader collaboration among hardware manufacturers and system integrators.
