Ericsson has integrated CommScope’s OneCell and Corning’s 5G Enterprise Radio Access Network (ERAN) with its Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform (EIAP) using the O1 interface, a key Open RAN standard. This collaboration, supported by AT&T, enhances network management by allowing mobile operators to manage subscriber connections across multiple environments using a unified platform. The integration reduces complexity, cuts operational costs, and supports interoperability between different vendor solutions.

The O1 interface enables seamless communication between Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) platforms and underlying Radio Access Network (RAN) infrastructure. This advancement allows operators to configure, monitor, and manage networks more efficiently across indoor and outdoor deployments. AT&T will be the first carrier to leverage the new functionality, furthering its commitment to Open RAN adoption.

• Key participants: Ericsson, AT&T, CommScope, Corning

• Technology: Integration of CommScope OneCell and Corning’s 5G ERAN with EIAP via O1 interface

• Purpose: Unified network management across multi-vendor environments

• Benefits: Reduced complexity, cost savings, enhanced interoperability

• First deployment: AT&T network

“AT&T is dedicated to driving innovation in network application development. By supporting open standards and architectures, we empower both application developers and network function vendors,” said Rob Soni, VP RAN Technology at AT&T. “This is a significant move towards unifying network management in a single, open framework.”

Anders Vestergren, Head of Solution Area Network Management, Ericsson says: “Integrating these third-party solutions with the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform via the O1 interface exemplifies our dedication to open networks and collaborative innovation. The new capabilities being introduced here, using Open RAN standards, empowers mobile operators to manage their networks more efficiently and deliver enhanced services to their customers. This collaborative work underscores Ericsson’s commitment to open interfaces and standards, accelerating innovation and reducing complexity across the telecom ecosystem.”
