The Fiber-to-the-Home Council has thrown its support to The Advanced Telecommunications and Opportunities Reform Act, (HR. 5252), which would establish a system of national video franchising. The bill would also support the development of municipal broadband networks.

ADSL / ADSL2+ served from 1999. What ultimately replaced it?
ADSL / ADSL2+ split the copper-loop spectrum into hundreds of DMT subcarriers, assigning most bandwidth downstream; reach and rate fell off sharply with loop length. Its job passed to FTTH — but the problem it solved, and the ideas it proved, live on in what replaced it. The standard rests here in the archive.
