Mavenir and Aira Technologies have successfully demonstrated an AI-powered high-fidelity MIMO channel estimation and prediction solution, marking a significant advancement in 5G spectral efficiency and throughput. The solution, integrated into Mavenir’s Open RAN-based O-DU (Open Distributed Unit), enables up to 35% more data transmission over the same spectrum, based on Aira’s simulation data. This enhancement improves multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) performance, allowing faster speeds and better 5G experiences for more users simultaneously.
Aira’s AI-driven spectrum efficiency solution leverages proprietary machine learning algorithms to optimize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), user mobility, and RF environment metrics. By seamlessly integrating into Mavenir’s commercial O-DU, the solution operates using existing baseband processing hardware, eliminating the need for additional AI-specific components like GPUs or accelerators. This approach enhances network capacity while minimizing cost and operational complexity for mobile operators. The Open RAN framework further enables third-party AI innovation in wireless baseband processing, supporting real-time channel prediction and improved spectral efficiency.
Mavenir and Aira will showcase their AI-powered 5G innovation at Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona (Hall 2, Stand 2H60). The demonstration highlights the potential of Open RAN to accelerate AI adoption in telecom networks, optimizing performance and reducing costs for 5G operators worldwide.
