Kyocera and Rohde & Schwarz are demonstrating over-the-air (OTA) characterization of Kyocera’s new mmWave phased array antenna module (PAAM) at MWC 2025. Designed for 5G FR2 infrastructure installations, Kyocera’s PAAM features 384 dual polarization elements capable of creating up to eight simultaneous beams in different directions at different frequencies. This enables site co-location for multiple operators running networks on different frequency bands.
To ensure optimal beam steering and directivity, Kyocera utilizes the R&S ATS1800M 5G NR multi-directional mmWave test chamber from Rohde & Schwarz. This compact, CATR-based OTA testing solution provides accurate characterization in a fully shielded environment, verifying beam patterns and minimizing sidelobes. The R&S ATS1800M features four feed antennas and CATR reflectors with a 30 cm quiet zone (QZ) where all QZs overlap, allowing simultaneous reception of RF beams from four different directions.
The test setup includes four R&S SMW200A vector signal generators, an R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer, and an R&S NGP800 power supply. This configuration simulates complex 5G NR FR2 reception scenarios, ensuring precise signal quality measurement. The demonstration will be showcased live at the Kyocera booth (5E12) in Hall 5 of Fira Gran Via at MWC 2025.
