Passave Technologies introduced a new chip for use in Gigabit Ethernet FTTH customer premises termination units, otherwise known as ONUs. The new device, which conforms to the emerging IEEE 802.3ah EFM standard, integrates EPON (EFM point-to-multi-point) and OAM functionality. It features integrated security, PON protocol, OAM protocol, UNI, burst control, as well as bridging with IGMP filtering and traffic management functions. Passave said its chip has been proven with burst optics from multiple vendors.
