T-Mobile has launched 5G On Demand, a portable 5G private network solution offering setup, teardown, and network management services. Designed to be deployed in a variety of industries, including media, oil and gas, and construction, this offering enables rapid deployment of 5G infrastructure for data-heavy applications, eliminating many traditional complexities. The company plans to roll out 5G On Demand commercially by the end of 2024.
T-Mobile has already tested its solution at major events, such as the PGA Championship and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. With T-Mobile’s 5G On Demand, CBS Sports and NBC Sports enhanced fan engagement through real-time, high-quality video feeds using Sony’s PDT-FP1 portable data transmitters. The system achieved glass-to-glass latencies under 100 milliseconds, enabling fiber-like video transmission speeds without cumbersome cables, even in challenging environments.
5G On Demand addresses common pain points like high costs and logistical challenges. It reduces dependency on fiber, supports remote production, and provides a cost-effective alternative to permanent 5G networks. The turnkey solution offers flexibility for teams to deliver seamless content while leveraging T-Mobile’s 5G network, known for its coverage and speed.
• Reduces costs by limiting fiber infrastructure use while delivering essential bandwidth
• Supports remote production, reducing the need for on-site staff and equipment
• Lowers costs compared to permanent 5G networks that are complex and expensive to maintain
• Enhances media production with flexible, portable setups that run on T-Mobile’s 5G network
• Achieves glass-to-glass video latency of under 100 milliseconds for real-time broadcast feeds
“With 5G On Demand, T-Mobile is transforming how businesses and organizations implement 5G private networks, prioritizing cost-efficiency and simplicity,” said Mishka Dehghan, SVP, Strategy, Product and Solutions Engineering at T-Mobile.
