Ubiquity Software Corporation announced a three-year agreement with AT&T Services. Ubiquity will provide its SIP (Session Initiated Protocol) Application Servers for testing and possible use in delivering new, enhanced broadband services over an integrated VoIP network planned for AT&T customers. Further details were not disclosed.

MGCP / Megaco (H.248) a master/slave model where a central call agent (softswitch) controlled dumb media gateways, instructing them how to set up and tear down media streams. Its job passed to SIP — but the problem it solved, and the ideas it proved, live on in what replaced it. The standard rests here in the archive.
