Vitesse Semiconductor introduced a 10 Gbps transceiver integrated circuit (IC) that supports both burst and continuous mode operation required for next-generation 10G-EPON Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) system deployments.
The new VSC8479-01 supports both XFI and SFI module interfaces, making it suitable for XFP and SFP+ host applications. It is the first 10G transceiver to meet and exceed the 10G-EPON IEEE P802.3av/D3.0 Draft standard for burst-mode performance. In addition to 10G-EPON system applications, the VSC8479-01 supports data rates ranging from 9.95 Gbps to 11.35 Gbps specifically for multi-rate applications including: 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE); 10G Fibre Channel (10G FC); OC-192 SONET/SDH; and optical transport networks (OTN). http://www.vitesse.com
