Tejas Networks to Supply 5G Radios for NEC

Tejas Networks, part of the Tata Group, signed an agreement with NEC Corporation to manufacture and supply 5G massive MIMO radios as part of NEC’s global 5G network portfolio. The announcement highlights ongoing efforts by telecom equipment providers to diversify supply chains and expand manufacturing partnerships for radio access network (RAN) infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Tejas Networks will produce high-capacity massive MIMO radios that comply with both 3GPP and O-RAN standards. The company offers 32TR and 64TR massive MIMO radio platforms designed for carrier-grade 4G and 5G deployments. NEC plans to integrate these radios into its global network offerings for mobile operators, supporting deployments of 5G and emerging 5G-Advanced capabilities.

Tejas Networks designs and manufactures wireline and wireless networking products used by telecom operators, internet service providers, utilities, defense agencies, and government networks in more than 75 countries. The company operates as part of the Tata Group, with Panatone Finvest Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd., serving as the majority shareholder.

Masayuki Kayahara, Corporate Senior Vice President of the Global Network Division at NEC Corporation, said: “Today’s milestone furthers our collaboration with Tejas Networks for 5G massive MIMO radio and to achieve supply-chain diversification which helps in mitigating risks to our customers by building a resilient, flexible globalized ecosystem.”

🌐 Analysis

Global telecom vendors continue to diversify RAN supply chains as operators push for multi-vendor architectures and O-RAN compatibility. NEC has positioned itself as a system integrator for open and virtualized RAN deployments, and partnerships with manufacturers such as Tejas Networks help expand production capacity while reducing dependence on a single vendor ecosystem.

Tejas Networks has expanded beyond its traditional optical networking portfolio into wireless infrastructure following Tata Group investments and its integration with Tata’s broader telecom ecosystem, including Tata Communications and other group companies. The deal with NEC reflects growing demand for alternative RAN suppliers as operators deploy 5G and prepare for 5G-Advanced upgrades.
