DE-CIX and MASS-IX announced a partnership that gives networks in New England direct, one-hop access to the DE-CIX New York Internet Exchange, eliminating the need for separate transport services into New York and reducing both latency and interconnection costs. Through DE-CIX’s IX Turnkey Connectivity program, networks connected to MASS-IX can now peer directly with hundreds of networks in New York while also gaining access to DE-CIX’s broader North American and global interconnection ecosystem.
The agreement links the largest Internet Exchange in New England with the largest exchange in the Northeastern United States. MASS-IX currently connects more than 70 networks across more than 12 Boston-area data centers, with nearly 3 Tbps of connected capacity and peak traffic exceeding 300 Gbps. By extending connectivity into DE-CIX New York, participants gain access to more than 260 connected networks across an infrastructure spanning over 40 data centers. DE-CIX New York processed more than 5 exabytes of traffic during 2025 and ranks as the third-largest Internet Exchange in North America.
The first network using the new connectivity is Boston-based TOWARDEX, whose Hub Express System (HEX) provides an open-access underground infrastructure platform connecting regional data centers. The partnership enables organizations connected through HEX to peer directly with DE-CIX New York while also reaching DE-CIX exchanges across the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, and other international markets without deploying separate transport infrastructure.
