Arelion Deploys Redundant Tier-1 IP Services for Rome Airports

Arelion has begun delivering high-performance IP Transit services to Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, strengthening network resilience across two of Italy’s busiest aviation hubs. The connectivity supports operational systems and passenger-facing applications under service-level agreements designed for predictable performance and low latency.

The services support airports operated by Aeroporti di Roma, providing diverse access into Arelion’s Rome metro network and its global Tier-1 IP backbone. The design introduces redundancy to mitigate outage risk while enabling internal enterprise workloads and digital passenger services to run on the same global network infrastructure.

According to Aeroporti di Roma, early performance data shows measurable improvements. Network observability tools indicate a reduction in latency following deployment, contributing to improved application performance and operational continuity across the airport environment, including international traffic flows toward North America and Asia.

  • Delivers IP Transit services to Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports
  • Provides diverse, redundant access into Arelion’s Rome network
  • Supports enterprise, cloud, and passenger-facing applications on a shared global backbone
  • Targets predictable SLAs and reduced outage risk for critical airport operations
  • Early results show a 10% latency reduction based on network monitoring tools

“Arelion provides Aeroporti di Roma with the scalable, AI-ready foundation essential to long-term reliability and innovation. Our secure connectivity services will help prevent costly downtime and service interruptions,” said Scott Nichols, Chief Commercial Officer at Arelion.

🌐  Analysis

Airports continue to modernize digital infrastructure as passenger volumes and cloud-based operational systems increase, raising requirements for low-latency and resilient IP connectivity. For Arelion, the deployment extends its footprint in critical transportation infrastructure, aligning with broader demand for carrier-grade IP backbones that can support both operational technology and passenger digital services at scale.
