Arelion is expanding its European network with the deployment of a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) at Digital Realty’s MRS4 data center in Marseille, France. This move strengthens Arelion’s presence in the region by providing fully diverse IP connectivity and scalable 400G wavelength solutions. The new PoP will improve performance by bypassing high-traffic routes and offering direct access to Arelion’s top-ranked Internet backbone, designed to meet the rising demand for hyperscaler, cloud, and network services in Marseille’s growing tech market.

Marseille has become a key hub for intercontinental traffic, driven by substantial investments in technology infrastructure over recent years. The city’s data centers and subsea cable systems support a total capacity of over 150 Tbps, establishing it as Europe’s fastest-growing center for content exchange and AI/cloud applications.

Arelion said its latest PoP connects to 14 subsea cables landing in the area, enabling traffic flows across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, while also providing local connectivity to major European data centers.Arelionsaid The new PoP will be operational in Q1 2025, offering scalable services such as IP Transit, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), and DDoS mitigation for global enterprises, content providers, and service operators.

Key points:

• New Point-of-Presence (PoP) at Digital Realty’s MRS4 in Marseille

• 400G wavelength solutions and fully diverse IP connectivity

• Connects to 14 subsea cables, supporting traffic across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia

• Enhanced local connectivity to Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris

• Operational in Q1 2025

“We’re seeing massive demand for reliable connectivity to support Marseille’s thriving technology markets as the region becomes a digital gateway for global Internet traffic, content, and cloud applications,” said Christoph Lannert, Deputy Chief Commercial Officer at Arelion.
