ARRIS certain cable modem termination systems (CMTS) related assets of COM 21, including the stock of its Irish subsidiary, for a purchase price of approximately $2.8 million. The acquired assets include a DOCSIS 2.0 based Layer 3 capable CMTS specifically suited for smaller markets. ARRIS said the acquisition is complementary to its own Cadant C4 CMTS, which is positioned for larger urban markets. The deal requires approval from the bankruptcy courts.

  • Earlier this month, Com21 voluntarily filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code. The company said that it intended to use the Chapter 11 process to restructure its operations.
  • In May 2003, ARRIS agreed to re-brand and re-sell Com21’s DOXcontroller 1000XB cable modem termination system (CMTS) worldwide. The DOXcontroller 1000XB adds a small scale DOCSIS 2.0-based and Layer 3 capable CMTS to the ARRIS portfolio of next generation high speed data products.
