Brocade has appointed David Meyer to the position of Service Provider business chief technology officer and chief scientist.

Meyer is known for his work on software-defined networking (SDN), Internet routing and OpenFlow technologies. Most recently, Meyer  was a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco focused on examining the growing role of OpenFlow and SDN within the enterprise and service provider markets.

In his new role, Meyer will play an integral role in the shaping of Brocade’s cloud networking, advanced routing and application delivery strategy.  He will report to Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager of the Routing, Application Delivery and Software Networking Group.

“The networking industry is undergoing an evolutionary period unlike any we’ve recently seen. The companies that are going to emerge victorious are those with the right combination of networking expertise, technology vision and business smarts,” said David Meyer, Service Provider business CTO and chief scientist at Brocade. “With its heritage for driving continued innovation, I believe that Brocade is well positioned to achieve growth within the hotly contested service provider networking market.”
