Matrix Networks and PT NAP Info Lintas Nusa activated Ciena WaveLogic 6 Extreme coherent optical technology across the Batam–Jakarta segment of the Matrix Cable System (MCS), enabling 1 Tbps per wavelength transmission on a live 1,055 km subsea corridor. The deployment positions the operators among the first in Southeast Asia to commercially deploy terabit-class coherent optics on an in-service submarine cable system.
The upgrade uses Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme platform powered by WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e), increasing the capacity of existing subsea fiber infrastructure without deploying new cable assets. The Batam–Jakarta corridor serves as a critical connectivity route linking Indonesia with Singapore-based internet exchanges, cloud providers, and international gateways. Matrix NAP Info said the enhanced backbone will support accelerating demand tied to AI workloads, cloud infrastructure, and content delivery networks across Indonesia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
The deployment was completed with support from Singapore-based Terrabit Networks, while Ciena Services handled network engineering, deployment, and lifecycle management. Matrix NAP Info also confirmed successful live production trials achieving sustained 1 Tbps transmission under operational submarine conditions. The companies said the upgraded corridor also supports adjacent services including MC-IX, Matrix Data Center, Matrix Cloud, and Matrix Internet.
- 1 Tbps per wavelength activated on a live 1,055 km subsea segment between Batam and Jakarta
- Deployment based on Ciena GeoMesh Extreme with WaveLogic 6 Extreme coherent optics
- Upgrade expands existing fiber capacity without laying new subsea cables
- Corridor links Indonesian infrastructure to Singapore internet and cloud hubs
- System supports growing AI, hyperscale cloud, and content delivery traffic demand
- Terrabit Networks served as deployment partner for optical transport integration
“By deploying the most advanced coherent optical technology available, we are future-proofing Indonesia’s international connectivity backbone and ensuring that our customers have access to the bandwidth they need to compete in the AI and cloud era,” said Omar Syarif Nasution, Director of Matrix NAP Info.
