The worldwide Service Provider Edge Router market expanded almost 30 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, according to a newly published report by Dell’Oro Group. The report highlights the key factors leading service providers to purchase routers and the rapid adoption of carrier Ethernet products within the edge router market.
“For the first time ever, we saw carrier Ethernet routers account for the majority of the edge router deployments,” said Shin Umeda, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. “This was a major milestone that shows how rapidly service providers are taking advantage of the lower costs and higher bandwidth capabilities that these Ethernet-based products bring to their networks,” added Umeda.
In a separately published report, Dell’Oro Group tracks the Carrier Ethernet Router and Switch market which exceeded $1.4 billion in the second quarter, almost three times the size of the market just three years ago.http://www.delloro.com
