EdgeConneX is looking to enter the Japanese market with plans for a 140MW data center campus in the Greater Osaka-Kyoto area. The project, developed in partnership with Kagoya Asset Management and Tatara R&D, will address the rising demand for AI and cloud infrastructure in Japan. Scheduled for completion by 2027, this state-of-the-art facility will support high-performance computing (HPC) and hyperscale cloud services, making it one of the largest data center developments in the Kansai region.

The expansion highlights EdgeConneX’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and cutting-edge technology for AI workloads. Masahiko Inoue, recently appointed as Head of Japan, will lead market strategy, focusing on power acquisition, real estate partnerships, and potential joint ventures. Backed by EQT Infrastructure, EdgeConneX continues to grow its global data center portfolio with over 80 facilities built or in development.

Key Highlights of EdgeConneX’s Japan Expansion:

• 140MW Data Center Campus: One of the largest in the Kansai region, ready for service in 2027.

• Strategic Location: Greater Osaka-Kyoto area, ideal for hyperscale cloud and AI infrastructure.

• Sustainable Design: Built with high-density capabilities to support AI and HPC workloads.

• Partnership with Kagoya Asset Management: Collaborating on land acquisition and development.

• Leadership Focus: Masahiko Inoue appointed as Head of Japan to drive market strategy and partnerships.

Kelvin Fong, Managing Director for APAC at EdgeConneX, emphasized: “Japan is rapidly becoming one of the most dynamic markets for cloud and AI services, and we’re committed to setting a new standard for sustainable digital infrastructure.”
