DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange operator, reported a record-breaking 68 exabytes of global data traffic exchanged across its platforms in 2024, reflecting a 15% increase from the previous year. This marks a doubling of global traffic since 2020 when DE-CIX handled 32 exabytes. The surge in data volume was driven by expanding internet-based applications, cloud services, and the growing popularity of gaming. Notably, a peak throughput of 24.92 Tbps was recorded on November 20, coinciding with major gaming releases and updates such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming expansion.
DE-CIX Frankfurt, Europe’s largest Internet Exchange, handled over 45 exabytes of data in 2024, a 13% year-over-year increase, with a peak of 18.11 Tbps recorded in November. As DE-CIX celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, its global footprint spans nearly 60 locations, providing critical interconnection services to over 3,400 networks worldwide.
