Google Commits US$15 Billion for AI Hub in India

Google announced plans to build India’s first artificial intelligence hub in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in the country to date. The $15 billion (USD) initiative will integrate a gigawatt-scale data center, subsea gateway, and renewable energy infrastructure to accelerate India’s digital and AI transformation. The project aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and will serve as a cornerstone of growing U.S.–India technology cooperation in the AI era.

The Visakhapatnam AI Hub will deploy Google’s full AI stack, combining advanced compute, large-scale data storage, and fiber-optic connectivity to support AI-driven innovation across enterprises, government services, and academia. The multi-year development, running from 2026 to 2030, is expected to contribute roughly $15 billion to U.S. GDP through joint operations and technology development. Key partners include AdaniConneX and Airtel, who will assist in constructing the purpose-built data center campus using the same architecture that powers Google’s Search, Workspace, and YouTube platforms.

A major component of the initiative is the construction of a new international subsea cable gateway in Visakhapatnam, providing additional landing points to complement Mumbai and Chennai. This system will strengthen India’s connectivity to Google’s global subsea and terrestrial network spanning more than two million miles (3.2 million km). The project also includes renewable energy generation and transmission upgrades to support the gigawatt-scale data center and reinforce Andhra Pradesh’s grid resilience.
