Japan’s MIXI Expands Capacity with PacketLight’s Alien Wavelengths

MIXI upgraded its communications and gaming network by deploying PacketLight’s PL-4000M Muxponder, achieving a 300G capacity boost between Tokyo and the Inzai area. This enhancement supports MIXI’s focus on reliable, low-latency connectivity for its sports, lifestyle, and digital entertainment segments. The new solution also addresses challenges posed by power shortages and space constraints in Tokyo by leveraging Inzai’s robust power infrastructure.

To enhance its data center interconnect (DCI), MIXI utilized wavelength leasing over dedicated lines, enabling the transport of 10 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services across distances of 60–70 kilometers (37–43 miles). PacketLight’s compact 1U equipment met strict Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) requirements while incorporating Layer-1 encryption for added security. Since its installation in March 2024, the solution has delivered stable performance, with MIXI planning further upgrades to integrate advanced features like delay measurement.

• Distance and Capacity: 300G link across 60–70 kilometers (37–43 miles) for 10 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services.

• DCI Approach: Leveraged wavelength leasing instead of dedicated lines.

• Technology: PacketLight’s PL-4000M with compact 1U design, high OSNR, and Layer-1 encryption.

• Implementation Benefits: Enhanced security, low latency, and operational efficiency with a user-friendly GUI.

• Future Plans: Additional network monitoring through new PacketLight features like delay measurement.

“A key aspect of MIXI’s capacity upgrade is that it was achieved without requiring any changes to their existing infrastructure,” said Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight. “This highlights the exceptional value and strength of our PL-4000M, enabling seamless network builds and upgrades.”
