VIAVI Solutions confirmed its critical role in validating the world’s first 800GbE transatlantic service trial, originally announced in October by Windstream Wholesale and Nokia. Spanning 8,500 kilometers (5,280 miles) between Chicago and London, the trial utilized Nokia’s Photonic Service Interconnect-Modular (PSI-M) platform to achieve 800G transmission speeds, with VIAVI providing the comprehensive testing framework that ensured a successful deployment.
VIAVI’s ONT-800 FLEX XPM test sets played a pivotal role in validating the optical modules and network equipment before deployment. This included several days of rigorous soak testing to address hardware and software integration challenges. During the live trial, VIAVI generated bi-directional 800G traffic streams to test the stability of the optical link, ensuring error-free performance and long-term reliability. By preemptively resolving potential issues, VIAVI significantly reduced post-deployment troubleshooting and accelerated service validation.
• Trial covered 8,500 km (5,280 miles) of subsea and terrestrial fiber between Chicago and London.
• VIAVI performed pre-deployment soak testing on Nokia 800G optical modules and hardware.
• Testing included bi-directional 800G traffic generation to validate service stability and error-free transmission.
• Comprehensive testing framework reduced troubleshooting and expedited deployment timelines.
• Trial supports increased demand for high-capacity networks, including AI applications.
“We are honored to support Windstream in this groundbreaking 800G transatlantic trial,” said Tom Fawcett, senior vice president and general manager, Lab and Production at VIAVI. “Our advanced testing solutions ensure seamless integration and reliable performance, enabling our partners to achieve their technology goals.”
