Nokia has enhanced its data center fabric solution with support for SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), an open-source software originally developed by Microsoft and the Open Compute Project and now overseen by the Linux Foundation. The move integrates open networking software with Nokia’s advanced hardware and automation capabilities, providing a flexible alternative for building efficient and reliable data center networks.
This update targets the growing demand for SONiC-enabled data center switching, which the 650 Group estimates will exceed $9 billion by 2028 due to rising investments in IT and AI workloads. Nokia’s portfolio now supports both SONiC and its proprietary SR Linux network operating system, catering to enterprises and cloud providers seeking advanced solutions for automation and operational efficiency. The company also unveiled its Event Driven Automation (EDA) platform, enabling seamless management of SONiC environments and minimizing downtime.
• Nokia integrates SONiC into its data center switches, combining open-source flexibility with robust hardware.
• SONiC-enabled switching market expected to grow to over $9 billion by 2028.
• Nokia’s Event Driven Automation (EDA) platform supports automated SONiC operations, reducing costs and errors.
• Enterprises and cloud providers can choose between SONiC or Nokia’s SR Linux OS for tailored solutions.
• Hardware optimized for reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term performance.
“Our SONiC integration delivers the flexibility enterprises and cloud providers demand, while ensuring operational excellence through advanced automation tools,” said Vach Kompella, Vice President, IP Networks Division at Nokia.
