Nokia signed a 5G expansion agreement with Taiwan Mobile to modernize the operator’s network with new AirScale radio and baseband systems and AI-driven network software. The deployment targets higher capacity, improved uplink performance, greater automation, lower energy consumption, and stronger network resilience as Taiwan Mobile prepares its infrastructure for increasing AI-generated traffic and new 5G services.

The agreement introduces AI capabilities across network operations, infrastructure, energy management, and resilience. Nokia will deploy Predictive Hardware Analytics for predictive maintenance and MantaRay SON for AI-based network optimization and automation. Next-generation baseband and radio systems will expand network capacity and improve spectrum efficiency, while traffic-aware energy management algorithms will dynamically adjust power consumption based on network demand.

Taiwan Mobile will also use AI-enabled self-healing and traffic steering capabilities to improve service continuity under changing network conditions. The expanded network infrastructure will support future 5G capabilities including network slicing and RedCap, while providing a foundation for Taiwan Mobile’s transition toward 5G-Advanced and more automated network operations.

• Nokia will deploy its latest AirScale radio and next-generation baseband portfolio across Taiwan Mobile’s 5G network.

• Predictive Hardware Analytics will use network data to identify potential equipment failures and support predictive maintenance.

• MantaRay SON will apply AI algorithms to automate network operations and optimize radio performance.

• New radio and baseband systems will increase network capacity, uplink performance, and spectrum efficiency for emerging AI traffic profiles.

• AI-powered energy management software will use traffic-aware optimization to reduce network power consumption.

• AI-enabled self-healing and traffic steering will dynamically adapt network resources and strengthen service continuity.

• The network modernization will support future services including network slicing, RedCap, and 5G-Advanced capabilities.

“We are extending our long-standing partnership with Taiwan Mobile, helping accelerate its journey toward AI-native networks. Our advanced radio and baseband solutions and AI-driven software deliver intelligent automation, enhanced performance and improved energy efficiency, setting the foundation for 5G-Advanced and beyond. The future-ready network enables Taiwan Mobile to deliver increasing volumes of AI traffic, provide new types of services and progress toward its sustainability targets,” said Mark Atkinson, Head of RAN at Nokia.

🌐 Analysis: The Taiwan Mobile deployment illustrates how major RAN modernization contracts increasingly combine radio hardware upgrades with AI-based operations, predictive maintenance, energy optimization, and closed-loop automation. Nokia is positioning AirScale, MantaRay SON, and its broader AI-RAN strategy as an integrated architecture for operators preparing networks for 5G-Advanced, AI-generated traffic growth, and more autonomous network operations.
