Nokia has teamed with Bharti Airtel to expose Airtel’s nationwide 5G and edge capabilities to developers and enterprises through the Nokia Network as Code platform. The partnership moves India’s API-driven network monetization strategy forward, giving third-party developers standardized access to Airtel’s pan-India network features following successful trials.

Airtel will offer its network APIs on a subscription basis to developers, system integrators, and enterprises using Nokia’s developer portal. The model gives builders direct access to Airtel’s 5G, AI, and edge computing functions—enabling new application workflows for automation, secure digital services, and industry-specific use cases across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, media, and smart cities.

The collaboration also strengthens the global footprint of Nokia’s Network as Code platform, which now includes more than 60 partners across telecom operators, CPaaS providers, systems integrators, AI customers, and ISVs. As operators look to turn network exposure into a revenue stream, standardized APIs continue to emerge as a pathway to monetizing 5G investments.

“At Airtel, we are always working toward bringing the ecosystem together to collaborate for future-ready innovations. In line with this commitment, we are happy to partner with Nokia today for network APIs and enable the ecosystem to leverage our network capabilities for automation and building secure and innovative digital services,” said Sharat Sinha, CEO, Airtel Business.

🌐 Analysis

Airtel becomes one of India’s earliest operators to formalize a commercial model for network APIs, aligning with efforts by global carriers to create new revenue opportunities from 5G investments. Nokia continues expanding its Network as Code footprint following similar API exposure partnerships with operators in Europe and North America, positioning itself as a leading platform provider in the telecom API economy.
