Nokia has partnered with EOLO, a leading fixed wireless access (FWA) provider in Italy, to deploy Europe’s first 5G standalone mmWave network. This four-year agreement supports EOLO’s mission to bring high-speed connectivity to underserved and rural communities in Italy, helping to bridge the digital divide with ultra-fast broadband services.

Nokia will supply its 5G AirScale portfolio, including Shikra mmWave radios, AirScale baseband solutions, and energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. These solutions deliver high capacity, ultra-wide bandwidth, and low latency, suitable for dense urban areas and Fixed Wireless Access in rural regions. Nokia’s FastMile 5G mmWave outdoor receivers will complement the infrastructure, enabling consistent and reliable wireless broadband where traditional wired solutions are impractical.

“This project underscores our commitment to providing best-in-class connectivity for retail, business, and wholesale customers, reaching areas not covered by FTTH,” said EOLO CEO Guido Garrone. Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, highlighted the partnership’s potential to offer premium connectivity and bridge the digital and speed divide in underserved Italian regions.

• Project: Deployment of Europe’s first 5G standalone mmWave network.

• Technology: Nokia’s Shikra mmWave radios, AirScale solutions, and FastMile 5G mmWave outdoor receivers.

• Focus: Bridging the digital divide by connecting underserved and rural Italian communities.

• Speeds: Supports FWA connectivity up to 1 Gbps.

• Applications: Enhances services like ultra-HD video streaming, augmented reality, and high-speed broadband.

“This is clear evidence of our ambition to build a FWA network able to offer the best experience for our customers, reaching all areas not connected by FTTH,” said EOLO CEO Guido Garrone.
