Nokia has announced a high-capacity optical network rollout with Viettel, Vietnam’s largest service provider.
Following a successful trial, which set a record transmission speed of 1.2 Tbps per wavelength, Viettel will deploy Nokia’s sixth-generation Photonic Service Engines (PSE-6s) and the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) to improve scalability and energy efficiency. The deployment will connect Viettel’s data centers across major cities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, with an expected completion date in 2025.
Nokia’s optical solution, powered by PSE-6s, enables Viettel to support up to 38.4 Tbps of network capacity over C-band, while also reducing power consumption by up to 60%. The technology supports high-density services, including 3 x 800GE or 6 x 400GE on a single line card, allowing Viettel to efficiently scale and future-proof its network for 5G and cloud-based applications.
