Nokia has secured a three-year deal to expand and enhance Vodafone Idea’s (VIL) IP backhaul network across multiple telecom circles in India. The agreement will see Nokia deploy its IP/MPLS solutions, specifically its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7250 Interconnect Router (IXR) series, to modernize VIL’s transport network. This upgrade will boost capacity across core, aggregation, and access layers to meet growing connectivity demands driven by applications such as AI, immersive gaming, and enterprise video conferencing.
Vodafone Idea will leverage Nokia’s IP routers to densify its network, replace legacy systems, and improve operational efficiency. The deployment is expected to lower operational costs, accelerate rollout timelines, and enable scalability for future technologies. The upgraded infrastructure will support both mobility and enterprise services, ensuring high-capacity and resilient connectivity while integrating automation-led planning, installation, and migration services.
The initiative also aligns with VIL’s focus on sustainable growth, as Nokia’s solutions are designed to reduce energy consumption and operational expenditure. The modernized network will help Vodafone Idea address India’s surging data traffic while enhancing customer experience across its 4G and 5G networks.
