Skype released a thin version of its VoIP softphone application for Microsoft PocketPC based handheld computers. PocketSkype is free and enables the user to make Skype voice calls from any Wi-Fi hotspot. The needs to be equipped with WiFi and a 400 MHz processor at minimum to use the instant messaging feature. http://www.skype.com/

HomePNA (phoneline) served 1998–2010. What ultimately replaced it?
HomePNA (phoneline) networked PCs over existing in-home telephone wiring by using frequencies above the voice band, avoiding new cabling. Its job passed to Wi-Fi — but the problem it solved, and the ideas it proved, live on in what replaced it. The standard rests here in the archive.
