QUALCOMM introduced anew infrastructure reference design for Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) networks. The base station reference design is based on QUALCOMM’s OFDMA Cell Site Modem CSM8900 and technologies from Freescale Semiconductor, Cavium Networks and Green Hills Software. Freescale Semiconductor’s MPC8548 PowerQUICC III processor is used for the control plane and Layer 2 functions. Cavium’s OCTEON Processor provides performance for Layer 3 and Layer 3+ networking applications. The UMB reference design also incorporates Green Hills Software’s u-velOSity realtime operating system (RTOS) and will utilize the MULTI Professional Edition integrated development environment.
