Ribbon’s 800G ZR+ Demo at NGON/NetworkX

Ribbon Communications has unveiled the first compact modular solution featuring both 400ZR+ and 800ZR+ ports, offering a significant upgrade for metro and long-haul transport networks. The live demo at NGON / NetworkX 2024 highlights the potential of this solution to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by optimizing space, power, and cooling efficiency. The demo runs on Ribbon’s 9408 modular platform, which boasts 25.6 Tbps per 2RU density and consumes less than 0.07W/G. Ribbon’s innovation is powered by Acacia’s 131Gbaud 800G ZR+ QSFP-DD transceiver and features a 4nm Delphi DSP with interoperable PCS technology.

The 9408 platform’s dual compatibility with both 400G and 800G ZR+ supports the latest metro and long-haul transport needs, offering a scalable solution that is ready for future upgrades. This platform also integrates 5nm-140Gbaud technology to support wavelengths up to 1.2T, ensuring high capacity and reach optimization. Ribbon emphasizes that this compact, high-performance sled offers operators a path to future-proofing their network infrastructure while lowering operational costs.

At the event, Ribbon demonstrated its commitment to accelerating network transformation with a focus on energy efficiency and performance. According to COO Sam Bucci, the new solution combines flexibility and power to meet the increasing demands of modern networks. Attendees at NGON/NetworkX were encouraged to explore how this modular approach can enhance network performance with minimal environmental impact.
