SK Telecom Moves to LTE

South Korea’s SK Telecom will launch an LTE service in Q3 beginning in Seoul. The company also announced plans to make heavy investments in high-speed Wi-Fi and data femtocells.

SK Telecom has been an early adopter of various mobile technologies, including CDMA, 2.5 CDMA2000 1x, 3G CDMA EV-DO, 3.5G HSDPA/HSUPA (on handsets), Satellite DMB (on handsets) and various other mobile technologies.

Separately, SK Telecom sold its entire stake in Skytel, Mongolia’s second largest mobile carrier, to existing Mongolian shareholders, including Sun Clay Group and Global Com LLC, for KRW 25.8 billion.http://www.sktelecom.com
