Google Confirms Multi-Year AI Collaboration With Apple

January 12, 2026
in AI Infrastructure
A A

Google confirmed a multi-year collaboration with Apple under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. The agreement will support future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri expected to launch later this year.

Apple did not issue a separate public announcement, but its position was included in the joint statement released by Google. According to the statement, Apple selected Google’s AI technology after an internal evaluation, concluding that Gemini provides the most capable foundation for its foundation models. Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

Both companies said the collaboration does not change Apple’s approach to privacy or system architecture. Apple Intelligence will maintain Apple’s existing privacy standards, with on-device processing and private cloud execution remaining central to how AI features are delivered to users. Financial and technical terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

  • Multi-year AI collaboration confirmed by Google with Apple
  • Next-generation Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini
  • Supports Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri
  • Apple Intelligence continues to run on-device and via Private Cloud Compute
  • No separate Apple press release; confirmation included in joint statement

“After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users.”

🌐  Analysis

The collaboration formalizes Google’s role as a foundational AI model provider for Apple at a time when large-scale consumer AI increasingly depends on cloud-trained models paired with edge execution. The structure preserves Apple’s control over user experience, system integration, and privacy, while positioning Gemini more directly against other foundation-model platforms competing for deep integration into consumer operating systems.
