Nokia and stc Group have successfully completed the first-ever 1Tbps (terabit-per-second) long-haul field trial in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, leveraging Nokia’s Photonic Service Engine 6s (PSE-6s) technology. The trial, conducted over stc Group’s live Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) terrestrial network, achieved a single-wavelength 1Tbps data transmission across 850 kilometers, setting a new benchmark for high-capacity, scalable data center interconnectivity in the region.
The test transported 6 x 100GE and 1 x 400GE services over a single 1Tbps wavelength, demonstrating both scalability and energy efficiency for bandwidth-heavy workloads such as AI, cloud services, and next-generation digital applications. This collaboration supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, which emphasize the development of a robust digital infrastructure and the promotion of cloud computing and 5G expansion.
By integrating Nokia’s PSE-6s technology, stc Group strengthens its position as a digital infrastructure leader, capable of delivering faster and more efficient data transmission while meeting the evolving demands of cloud and AI applications. The trial also highlights energy efficiency, security, and seamless integration into existing data center environments, making it a key advancement in regional network innovation.
