T-Systems and NTT Comm Launch Dataspace Sandbox

A A

T-Systems and NTT Communications have partnered to launch a dataspace test environment in Japan, aiming to advance data ecosystems and achieve seamless interoperability between Europe and Japan. This collaboration will introduce a dataspace sandbox, utilizing open-source software from Eclipse Foundation projects, including Tractus-X and Eclipse Dataspace Components. These technologies are already used in significant data initiatives like Catena-X for the automotive industry.

The two companies are prominent contributors to several data sovereignty initiatives, including Gaia-X, IDSA, and Catena-X. T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom’s IT unit, has developed and operated key components like Gaia-X Digital Clearing House and Tractus-X software. NTT Communications has been integral in promoting international collaboration on trusted dataspaces. Together, the companies aim to facilitate secure, interoperable data exchange across sectors and borders, ensuring the protection of data sovereignty in industries such as global supply chains.

T-Systems will deploy its Living Lab product as a dataspace-as-a-service, hosted on cloud infrastructure in Germany. Japanese organizations will access it through NTT Communications’ international testbed. This sandbox environment will be available for testing by various Japanese universities, companies, and institutions in the third quarter of 2024. The partnership will expand with joint tests later in the year, connecting sandboxes in Germany and Japan, with plans to integrate Gaia-X’s services to further mutual recognition of trust anchors.
